I remember we had a student who depended on his performance in English to get an opportunity in Switzerland, through the company he worked for. He held an executive position in Brazil and, in the language, he had skills compatible with the Upper Intermediate level of our school.
Despite his good speaking, to take on a challenge abroad, he needed more. It took approximately two years of preparation – and a lot of dedication – until he was ready. He did it!
Our student had a successful ending, but this is not always the case. There are many cases of professionals who see their goals threatened because they do not master the language. Sometimes opportunities do not wait, so it is essential to be alert and anticipate. The English language is, indeed, a differentiator and can even be a determining factor. For those who need to “make up for lost time”, I reinforce what I have already said here: it is necessary to have drive, determtion, and to understand that, in order to obtain consistent results, it takes some time to study.
Brazil still has a low percentage of English proficiency scores in surveys. One of the reasons is the teaching model that is predomntly based on reading, leaving shopify website design much to be desired in the development of speaking, listening and writing. I am optimistic, I believe that we can make progress in deconstructing this pattern and I believe that addressing the importance of studying – and learning – English from an early age is part of this process.
Mastering the English language can lead you to privileged positions, but you need to be ready. Are you ready?
